Fact: business survival rates for over 50s are much higher than for younger people, and almost one-in-five working over 50s are self-employed.  Fact: 40% of new business start-ups by women have grown by 40% in the past five years.  Come on ladies – what are you waiting for?

Are you an empty-nester?  Why not put those life skills and experience to good use? Do you have a hobby that your friends say that you should turn into a business?  Are you looking for fresh challenges and something that can fit in with your lifestyle?

Do you want something that will finally reward you for all your hard work?  Those businesses that have proper business advice have the greatest chance of succeeding.  I am a Gold SFEDI accredited business adviser, with 27 years' experience of working with and starting up businesses.  I work for Birmingham City Council as an Enterprise Development Officer.

I hit the big 50 and decided I wanted to practice what I preached.  I set up my own company “Rodborough Consultancy Limited” and have been busy giving freelance business advice to companies as well as helping talented individuals set up their own businesses.  I am also currently subcontracted to deliver start-up business workshops for Barclays Bank and have successfully completed a number of Business Link contracts.  I have helped clients obtain grants, complete business plans, do cash flows, profit and loss accounts and sales forecasts.

I help with marketing and ensuring that the business is correctly run both legally and financially.  My greatest reward is to see women of our age, who sometimes lack confidence, have never viewed themselves as a business woman, suddenly realise that yes, they can run a successful business.  Could this, for example, be you?

Testimonial:

“Spent my first day as ‘A9 Book – Keeping’ today.  It was fabulous”.

"I have never looked back”, (Caroline Turner of Funky Felt and Fibres).

Remember: "When you look back on your life, you'll regret the things you didn't do more than the ones you did."
